About Quilt Minnesota Shop Hop
Beginning in April, pick up a shop hop flyer at a participating shop. For your traveling convenience the beautiful state of Minnesota has been divided into nine (9) Sections.
On Friday, August 2nd pick up a shop hop passport at the first shop you visit. As you travel the state, each shop will stamp your passport and give you a free 5” fabric square from this years exclusive fabric coordinates along with a pattern for a 9” finished quilt block. (No purchase necessary.)
Continue visiting shops to fill up your passport! We often are told that the thought of going to 63 or 76 shops is daunting! Our response is, “You make it what it is - do as much or as little of the hop as you choose”. May we suggest traveling with a loved-one, family and friends, plan a couple day trips, jump on a section bus and enjoy the inspiration you’ll find while visiting Minnesota's Finest Quilt Shops!
Each year we feature an exclusive fabric line; stores work very hard to create and design projects using the shop hop fabrics. This year’s fabric collection is from Windham Fabrics. Fabrics can be preordered from participating shop for $11.49/yard. Fabric will be released from stores the first day of the hop - Friday, August 2nd.
Participating Shops send a sample of their 9” finished quilt block to one central location. All of these blocks are assembled into our annual State Shop Hop Quilt. The quilt makes its début during the shop hop hanging in the courtyard area of Gruber’s Quilt Shop,Waite Park. This quilt is a snap-shot of all the participating shops and their abundant creativity.
Watch for Section bus trips in the area you wish to visit! As they are planned, information will be listed on the website. Get your friends together, enjoy the beautiful state and let someone else do the driving!
As our way of saying thank you for shop hopping with us we are offering the following prizes:
All of the Shop Hop Sections offer special incentives for visiting all the shops within a section. Sections also have the option to offer Junior Prizes for our hoppers between the ages 8-17.

August of 2007 was the beginning of this truly wonderful event. Since then we have entertained countless visitors from around the country and the world. Our best laid plans have been interrupted by disasters such as area-wide flooding, the 35W bridge collapse and major road construction projects. We have featured fabric lines by these esteemed MN native designers: beloved Holly Taylor for Moda Fabrics and departed James Meger for Quilting Treasures. Diligent Hoppers have logged many miles traveling by motorcycle, car or bus; and been the recipients of thousands of dollars in prizes!
Simple guidelines govern Quilt Minnesota; one unanimously supported is the inclusion of independent, brick-and-mortar, quilt shops. Participating shops work very hard 365 days a year to provide creative quilting inspiration and personal customer service to thousands of quilters. It truly is wonderful to be able to say that for 17 days in August we aren't “independent quilt shops” we are united to promote Minnesota and keeping shop hoppers enthused about the art of quilting.
